The iconic Coconut Chair by George Nelson is typical of 1950's design and is distinguished by formal clarity and the fact that it uses the minimum of materials.
Manufactured by Vitra, George Nelson himself compared it to a coconut cut up into eight sections, hence its name. The Coconut Chair, though, reverses the colours - the outer plastic shell is white and the one piece upholstery is available in different coloured leathers.
