Swedese remains loyal to its Swedish origins by producing the same classically styled, Scandinavian influenced furniture that it did when the company first started in 1945
Swedese was founded by the brothers Yngve and Jerker Ekström and Sven Bertil Sjöqvist, with Yngve leading the company until his death. Yngve Ekström was so passionate about his company that he personally designed everything produced including the furniture, head office building, logo and catalogues, with no detail being overlooked.
Yngve Ekström had a clear vision for his work as he had an understanding of the versatility of the modern architect long before his time. Yngve knew that an architect does not merely design the outside of the building but also designs with the interior and furniture in mind. The Lamino Armchair he created in 1956 is one of his most well known designs which is still manufactured and sold all over the world today, voted the Twentieth Century’s Best Swedish Furniture Design by Swedish interior design magazine, Sköna Hem.
The current owner of Swedese, Mrs Elisabeth Johansson, stays true to the original ideals of the company offering beautiful furniture for the future that builds on the foundations of Scandinavian modern traditions. Both the headquarters and factories are still based in Sweden, where designers work endlessly to continue the concept of the ‘Scandinavian Modern.’
