Home > String

The String principle is the perfect example of classical Scandinavian design which retains its contemporary timeless quality even though it was originally designed over 50 years ago. Nils Strinning, a Swedish architect whose work sits amongst the leaders of mid-twentieth century designers that helped to establish the foundations of Scandinavian design, is responsible for this forward thinking idea.

The String Range offers a concept that grows with you, allowing you to add or subtract shelves, units and desks so that every addition to this unique range is interchangeable. It is a truly economical option that can be suitably adopted to the requirements of each individual. The true beauty of the String design is in its simplicity and functionality, it is completely unpretentious in composition and available in a wide variety of size, colour and material options allowing the shelving system to blend perfectly into any space.

Since its introduction in 1949 it has been the winner of a handful of prestigious awards including First Prize at the Bonniers Folkbiblioteks bookshelf competition (1949), Gold medal at Triennale, Milan (1954) and in more recent years twice winner of the Excellent Swedish Design by Svensk Form (1993 and 1999) and The Classic Award by Svensk Form (1999).
