Richard Sapper
RICHARD SAPPER was born in Munich in 1932 and studied philosophy, anatomy, graphics, engineering and economics. He is ten times winner of the coveted Compassi d'Oro and his prime interest is the design of technically complex objects, from ships to watches. His work for Alessi is featured here, including his first project for the company - the Alessi Espresso Coffee Maker, 9090 which won the XIth Crusinallo d'Oro and is displayed in New York's Museum of Modern Art.
His next great achievement for Alessi was the SAPPER Kettle which has perfectly tuned pitch pipes in E and B, which produce a pleasant clear sound when the water boils. He has gone on to create a number of other coffee machine and iconic designs for the company.
