The Japanese designer Oki Sato was born in Canada in 1977. He won many accomplished awards whilst still studying at the Waseda University in Tokyo, including the Gold Medal at the Koizumi International Lighting Design show. After graduating with an M.A in Architecture in 2002 he established Nendo, his first design consultancy in Tokyo. His work was soon sought after internationally, leading to him winning a Special Mention Award from the German magazine ''Design Report'' and also the Design Award at Tokyo Design Week.
In 2005 he expanded his business by opening another design office in Milan, a city which he has since produced many exhibitions for, although he still keeps a strong design presence in Tokyo as well. His work is also exhibited in the top museums and galleries worldwide, including key cities such as London, Paris and New York. Oki Sato designs everything from furniture to home furnishings, working for many acclaimed brands including Foscarini, Gandia Blasco and Established and Sons. His recent pieces like the Maki Pendant Light he produced for Foscarini are clearly inspired by his Japanese heritage.
