Born in Austria with a French citizenship, Marc Sadler has traveled widely throughout his career, living and working in Europe, North America and Asia. Through his travels he has adapted an eclectic style that embraces a multitude of different cultures. The Mini Tress table lamp he produced for Foscarini in particular has a clear Asian inspiration, this is reflected through his use of organic shape and woven textures.
Marc Sadler’s career initially took off while working for the Italian sportswear firm Caber (later known as Lotto), when he revolutionized the ski-boot industry with his thermo-plastic design that was 100% recyclable. The invention marked the start of a long and rewarding relationship with the company in which he produced other cutting edge designs such as the ski-boot with a symmetric shell, a design that became the most widely used style for many years. Working in the sports sector allowed Sadler to explore many new materials and techniques, which have provided him essential experience in the field of product development and innovation.
His career soon surpassed the field of sportswear and he now acts as a consultant over a wide range of design disciplines including home furnishings, household appliances and lighting. Three times winner of the Compasso d’Oro ADI award in 1994, 2001 and 2008 for his work with prestigious brands Flos, Foscarini and Caimi Brevetti. He also has work exhibited in permanent collections worldwide, including the lamp Mite he produced for Foscarini that is a permanent feature in the design collection of the Beaubourg in Paris. One of his most recognizable pieces is the Twiggy floor lamp, a design which has been strategically developed to be space effective as well as adjustable enough to suit any environment or need, a truly fantastic design solution.
