Karim Rashid
Born in Cairo in 1960 and raised in the UK and Canada KARIM RASHID obtained a bachelor of Industrial Design in Canada in 1982 and postgraduate studies in Italy. For seven years he was with KAN Industrial Design and co-designed the Babel Fashion Collection for 6 years.
In 1993, he opened his own studio in Manhattan and as a tireless self promoter he has made a huge success of his studio, where dozens of assistants and interns work. He claims “the faster you work, the better you design” and to this end has been massively productive and commecrially successful. According to his own figures he has designed approximately one hundred products every year over the last ten years including diverse items such as manhole covers, jars, shopfittings, suitcases, lamps, porcelain, chess sets and many others for such companies as Foscarini, Edra, Alessi and Artemide.
His works are in the permanent collections of 14 Museums.
