Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon has shot to international acclaim through his use of designing with the intent of preserving and updating traditional objects through new forms of materials and technologies. His work is strongly characterized by his childhood passions: skateboard culture and graffiti art. This is often reflected through his use of bold detail which still emotes a playful feel. His first key exibition in 2010 ‘Mediterranean Digital Baroque’ at London’s David Gill Gallery, and subsequent exhibition ‘Mon Cirque’ which travelled to Frankfurt, Barcelona, Paris and Kuala Lumpur, ensured that he has established himself as one of the new leaders of the current contemporary design movement. These collections represent how the lines between art, decoration, design and craftsmanship are continually blurring. Now a regular exhibitor at some of the world’s most prestigious galleries he is truly redefining the way we see design developing in the future. In 2008, Jaime was guest of honor at Belgium’s Interieur Biennial, the youngest person ever to receive the accolade.
Jaime Hayon began his career at Fabrica in 1997, the Benetton-funded design and communication academy. His talents were soon discovered and he was not long promoted to Head of the Design Department where he overseen a wide range of projects including shop, restaurant and exhibition conception and design. In 2005, he decided to set up his own design business covering everything from designer toys, ceramics and furniture, followed by interior design and installation. Since this time he has completed projects for some of the most influential brands around today, including Fritz Hansen , Established and Sons, Moooi , Swarovski and his ongoing work as a creative consultant for the Spanish porcelain manufacturer Lladró. The Favn Sofa, designed for Fritz Hansen is one of Jaime’s most recent pieces. Favn is characterized by its shell shape with the intention of bringing together the qualities of Spanish and Danish design.
