The elegant Murano glass which is produced on a group of islands in the Venice lagoon is legendary in Italy. When Foscarini was founded in the city in 1981 it concentrated exclusively on developing the potential of this precious and traditional material and helping to maintain its conservation. The company soon began to explore further afield and not only made contact with such leading international designers as Tom Dixon, Rodolfo Dordoni, Ferrucio Laviani and Defne Koz but also extended its range of materials quite considerably. For many years now Foscarini's designers have been working in a range of different media including satin glass, wood, plastics, aluminium and various patented special textures. Foscarini's catalogue now reflects this diversity with designs like the Esa table lamp, the iconic Havana and the Lightweight chandelier.
Collectively, this makes for a highly original catalogue and one of the most varied in the lighting sector.
