Alessandro Mendini
ALESSANDRO MENDINI was born in Milan in 1931. He is an accomplished architect, designer and image consultant for Philips, Swarovski, Swatch, and Bisazza.
He was a former director of Casabella, Modo and Domus and winner of a Compasso d'Oro and the designer of the Groninger Museum in Groningen, the Casino in Arosa and the Forum in Omegna. He is a close associate both of Alessi as a company and the Alessi family as a friend. As an architect, he has designed two additions to their Crusinallo factory, the Alessi Museum, the complex display system for the new Alessi showrooms and various exhibitions. As a design manager, he is responsible for conceiving and overseeing some of Alessi’s renowned design projects. As a journalist, he has written books for them and is the official Alessi historian. As a consultant, he has introduced Alessi to a large number of designers who have worked for them and he continues to come up with objects for them, which often are to be found in the most difficult and exciting areas of their catalogues.
His designs have been abundant and he continually achieves the near impossible – uniting stylish practicality with good design. This can be with the Anna range, the Geo coffee makers and Alessandro corkscrews. He has also designed for Acme and Kundalini and a number of his designs are featured throughout our store.
