Alberto Meda

Born in Tremezzina, Italy, in 1945, Alberto Meda started his career in engineering after finishing Politenico in Milan in 1969 with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a technical manager for the renowned furniture brand Kartell as well as completing freelance work for several other prestigious brands like Alessi, Luceplan and Legrand. Throughout his accomplished career he has also worked as a lecturer for several established universities worldwide as well as carrying out research activities at the IUAV (Venice University Institute of Architecture).

Meda’s work has been displayed in many galleries with some of his most successful pieces like the "Light light" chair, "Soft light "chair, “Longframe“ by Alias and "On-Off " being part of the Design Collection of the New York MOMA since 1994. The "Mix" by Luceplan was added to this collection in 2008. The multi-award winning designer has received numerous awards throughout his career consisting of being the three times winner of the “Compasso d’Oro” award in 1989, 1994 and 2008 for the creation of the Lola, Metropoli and Mix lights by Luceplan. He has also received the Honorary Royal Designer for Industry award in 2005, RSA London, his most celebrated award to date.

Alberto Meda now lives in Milan and continues to design and innovate new products, with a focus on lighting.
