Acme Studio

Founders Adrian Olabuenaga and his wife Lesley Bailey established Acme Studios in 1985, in Los Angeles. For their first series they commissioned Peter Shire, a member of the prestigious Memphis Group, to produce a limited edition range of jewellery. Due to the success of this range Adrian and Lesley continued to work with many world-renown members of the Memphis Group such as Ettore Sottsass, Barbara Radice, Andrea Branzi, Aldo Cibic, Michele De Lucchi and Matteo Thun. The ranges produced made a huge impact on the jewellery design industry and can now be seen in a permanent collection at the Groninger Museum in Holland, as well as several other museums worldwide.

Following the success of the jewellery range Acme Studios began to work with top designers in a range of design fields to further establish themselves in the design industry, creating collections like “Architects for Acme", "Artists for Acme" and "Alchimia for Acme." After the success of these collections they relocated their headquarters to Maui, Hawaii in 1988 and extended their ranges to include wrist watches, men's accessories and leather goods.

One of their most successful product ranges have included writing tools in which they collaborated with hundreds of top designers to produce pens and other stationary items. Some of the most successful designs have included the Biltmore pen by Frank Lloyd Wright, Fern pen by Iris Interhal and Brick pen by Frank Lloyd Wright. In 2009, they were nominated for a National Design Award in Corporate Achievement by the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, followed by a further two nominations for product design and corporate achievement in the following year. Acme Studio’s latest range in 2011 included limited edition Beatles Collection pen sets.
