Anna Castelli Ferriera was born in 1920 in Milan. She studied architecture at Milan Polytechnic and was one of the first local female architectural graduates. Then alongside her husband Giulio Castelli in 1949 she founded Kartell, one of Italy's most successful furniture and lighting design companies. Kartell has championed designers such as the renowned Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola and lighting genius Ferruccio Laviani. Although she practiced principally as an architect, here we feature her most famous product design and one of Kartell's best sellers, the Componibili Storage Unit.
