A Di Alessi covers all their 'democratic' design items including most of their plastic designs such as the iconic Anna Corkscrew and products which are generally made in greater volume and are therefore more economical to manufacturer.

The name Alessi is synonymous with contemporary Italian design. Founded by Giovanni Alessi in 1921 the company began as a foundry and metal workshop and developed into the leading homeware design pioneer we see today. As champions of cutting edge designers it was Alessi who gave Philippe Starck his first big break with the launch of the Juicy Salif Lemon Squeezer. As well as a strong and timeless back catalogue Alessi remains both ruthlessly commercial as well as experimentally avante garde. Alessi was the first brands we stocked when opened in 1999. Carl Hansen was a master cabinetmaker who opened his first workshop in Odense, Denmark, on October 28, 1908. Still associated with crafted wooden furniture this Danish stalwart of the design classic world's most famous designer is Hans J. Wegner, creator of their best selling and perennially popular Wishbone Chair. Today, Carl Hansen is led by Knud Erik Hansen, grandson of the founder. The third-generation company now produces these enduring designs in a new, dedicated facility according to the strictest quality and environmental standards.

Italian furniture company Cassina is part of the Poltrona Frau Group. Established in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina the company produces many of the world's most iconic furniture designs including the Zig Zag Chair and Red and Blue Chair by Gerrit Rietveld, and classics by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright and Franco Albini. It also holds the licence to produce the LC range of furniture (LC2 and LC3 Sofa, LC4 Chaise) by Le Corbusier. A relatively new brand the design inspiration for Daniel Wellington was the founder's meeting a British gentleman who had the ability to be gentlemanly but still relaxed and unpretentious. Named after the postcode of its first London workshop E15 was founded in 1995 by architect Philip Mainzer. Flos lighting was founded in 1962 when it began producing a number of lamps that were to become classics in Italian industrial design. These include the Arco and Taccia designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Achille Castiglioni's contribution to Flos has shaped the whole identity of the company. It continues to work with today's very best product designers like Patricia Urquiola, Jasper Morrison, Philippe Starck and Marcel Wanders to create lighting solutions for the moderns home and commercial environments. With an architectural arm too Utility has been a dealer of the Flos decorative lighting collection since 2001.

Foscarini Lighting was founded in Murano - a name synonymous with Italian glass in 1981. Whilst it's original designs concentrated exclusively in developing this precious and traditional material the company has developed into something of a leading light in lighting design. With designers like Rodolfo Dordoni (Lumiere Lamp), Ferrucio Laviani, Patricia Urquiola (Caboche Light) and Marc Sadler (Twiggy Floor Lamp) Foscarini has created some of the most iconic lighting designs of recent times. Think Danish furniture, think Fritz Hansen. Founded in 1872 when Fritz Hansen himself registered as a cabinet maker in Copenhagen the company remained a traditional Danish furniture manufacturer until the 1950s when it started working with architect and designer Arne Jacobsen. This collaboration has come to define the Fritz Hansen brand with a plethora of designs (Egg Chair, Swan Chair, Ant Chair, Series 7 Chair) which are not only design classics but have been much copied, a testament to their appeal and definitive design in 20th century modern furniture. Naturally we only sell Fritz Hansen originals from their classics back catalogue and new designs like the Favn Sofa and Nap Chair.

Gan is the rug and textiles side of Spanish furniture company Gandia Blasco. Based in Valencia Gan produces its rugs in India by artisan rug makers. Each rug is "GoodWeave" certified, which ensures they are not manufactured using child labour. As well as designs by founder Jose Gandia Blasco, the company also works with Patricia Urquiola, Sandra Figuerola and Odos Design to produce kilims, hand tufted and mangas rugs to order.

Gubi was founded in Copenhagen in 1967. As well as owning Bestlite, Gubi has a philosophy to discover overlooked icons of the past and design new ones for the future. The result is an eclectic, intercontinental collection which blurs the lines between past, present and future. Canadian company Umbra was born 31 years ago when graphic designer Paul Rowan couldn't find a nice window shade to hang in his new apartment window. So, he made one. And others liked it! Vitra is a furniture and accessories manufacturer established by Willi Fehlbaum when he took over a shop fitting business in Basel, Switzerland in 1934. It was in 1957, though, when the company's fortunes really changed when American company Hermann Miller granted Vitra the European rights to produce and distribute the extensive and highly coveted Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson catalogue of furniture and home accessories. This was followed in 1960 with the introduction of the hugely successful Panton Chair by Danish designer Verner Panton. Today the company not only produces these original design classics but works with designers such as Antonio Citterio, Jasper Morrison and Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec to create fresh designs for today's modern interiors.
