The original Oxford Chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1965 for St. Catherine's College, Oxford. Over the years these have changed in appearance but this version is more true to the original design.
Manufactured by Fritz Hansen in Denmark the Oxford Chair is available in three different heights (see Oxford - Low Back and Oxford - High Back separate listings). This is the medium back version and comes with either a five star aluminium base which has a fixed height of 102cm and seat height of 48cm or a 5 castor base which has a variable height of 100-114cm and seat height of 41-55cm. This variable version also has a tilt feature.

Danish hides of the highest quality ensuring the animals have good living conditions so the hides have fewer natural markings.

Elegance Leather : An exquisite type of leather of the finest quality oxhide offering excellent sitting comfort as well as a feeling of exclusivity. An aniline leather, it has an exclusive and natural look and is soft and pleasant to the touch. The leather has a natural surface structure and all natural markings are visible giving the chair a unique sense of character. The leather acquires a beautiful darker patina with use and exposure to sunlight.
White Leather : The finest quality oxhide, soft to the touch and offering excellent sitting comfort. Treated with a light finish, the hide is resilient and easy to look after.
*Note - The Oxford Chair with castors is height adjustable whereas the star base model features a fixed height.
About The Designer
Arne Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen in 1902 and graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in architecture in 1927. He was prolific both as an architect and as a designer. He is most famous for designing the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for the interior, the Egg and Swan Chair together with the Swan Sofa and Series 3300 with Fritz Hansen. This propelled the Arne Jacobsen name into furniture history.
