The Hill House 1 Chair, from Cassina, was originally designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for a Scottish publisher. It was used as a decorative piece for his bedroom at Hill House in Helensburgh, Scotland.
Hill House 1 marked a new phase in Mackintosh's work, one characterised by geometric severity. Parallel and horizontal lines construct a high ladder back which is topped by a grid of squares. These extreme proportions can be seen in a number of his dining chairs. The ashwood frame has a stained black finish with a velvet upholstered seat pad in green or pink.
The Hill House 1 Chair is part of the the "Cassina Maestri" collection. These are certified original designs, each of which is marked with the signature of the designer and the Cassina Maestri logo, together with the production number and identity card.
