The Folding Chair, by Danish designer Mogen Koch for Carl Hansen, embodies simple functionalism with a strong and elegant aesthetic expression.
Initially designed for a church interior competition, the Folding Chair didn't gain recognition until it was showcased at the annual Carpenters guild exhibition in Copenhagen. Playful yet elegant, its construction allows the chair to be effortlessly folded away via the strong, self-stabilising base and the four brass rings enabling the seat to slide the length of the vertical supports. Full-grain butt leather armrests elegantly finish the design.
The beautifully constructed base is available in oil-treated beech or mahogany and can be selected with a seat and back in natural canvas or leather in a range of organic hues. As an addition, a seat cushion is available.
Fabric Description :
Canvas - 90% New Wool and 10% nylon. Durable with a semi-plain wave, its perfect for both domestic and contract use.
Thor Leather- This semi-aniline leather has a natural grain and its occasional slight scars and markings add to its individuality. Coated with a protective layer to increase practicality and withstand stains and fading, this leather will wear slightly over time adding to its appearance.
Oil - Grain and structure are visible; lighter than soap; creates lustre and brings out contrast in grain and structure. Darkens over time to a rich patina
